| So if you go onto my facebook site, there's a picture of me and Dragon, my kite.
M, Lucy, and I put on all our Mountain Hardware stuff to go out into last weeks frozen bluster so that we could fly the Dragon. Well we got to Banneker field at about 4pm Sunday and it was kickin at about 30mph on the field. There's this funnel effect through there because the wind comes up the street and over the houses which are below the field elevation, then hits the burm that you see as you get to my parents' home. Once it hits the burm, it accelerates like another 10-15mph. So it's like kite flying heaven.
We launched Dragon into the air and he dove 5-7 times before I realized the dude's wingtip was slipping out of the skin. So Dragon would spiral about and dive into the ground. Hands frozen, we launched Dragon up and realized at about 40-50 meters up, we had a cross breeze coming from the south.
Dragon went up, then once he hit that cross-breeze ceiling, he would glide as though there was no air under his wings. Then all of a sudden he shifted yaw-left, then took off again - up! About 45 min later we had him at full string, then the real wind kicked in.
For me to run backward and try to gain some lift was like pulling roots out of the sky. I totally stumbled once trying to pull Dragon east away from the school. At this point he's sitting up there at about 100 meters. I thought for a moment the string would break, then figured that when Okimavich -who purchased the string I was using- would never have purchased weak string. Kudos there, JK.
Then arrived the thought: I was going up or Dragon was coming down. For a second I really thought that if I tripped, I was going to get dragged across the field with Lucy growling through her grip on my trouser leg.
Well... 185lbs of Cabellon won out. Dragon is back in the car thinking twice about pulling me off the ground.
Lesson: We need more string.

| Last night I left Baltimore for London... was it yesterday? I don't know because it's the 14th here, but it's the 13th at home. M and I are on the phone now celebrating Valentines Day and it's 1124pm at home, but 1024am. It's blazing 80 degrees here and in the 20's at home.
I actually have an official day off here to roam about. Apparently (according to my colleagues here) I can walk from the hotel to a shopping area that opens at 11am, so I plan to have some adventures today.
So M just asked me what it's like in the future. It's dirty. There's a traffic circle just outside the hotel about the size of Dupont Circle in D.C. with traffic all about it. I guess that's why they call it a traffic circle. There's people everywhere, and smog. SMOG! All the people on TV are still whitish -or light skinned. So the future is pretty much the same as the present.
When we got to the airport yesterday, the whole place was filled with cigarette smoke and dust. Did I mention people? Lots of people -celebrating Valentine's Day. | | |
| Fine... all of you who know me understand that I'm not an avid football fan. But the Seahawks totally rock. They are good at the sport they play. | | |
